Mothering Sunday - The UK's Mother's Day

The celebration in the UK of Mothering Sunday, goes back many centuries. It is one of a number of variations of Mother's Day around the world, and in fact, due to commercialization, is often referred to as Mother's Day in the UK too. The origins of this special day in fact go back beyond mothers in the sense we know today, but to the Mother church. (See History of Mothering Sunday.)

Regardless of what you call Mother's Day, nowadays it is a day for making Mum feel special, giving her a day off any chores, giving gifts that will delight her, and arranging a memorable day for her.
